Paper pulp (Hemp & Banana fiber) in water is poured
into the image in the negative mold. The water in the pulp is
removed by pressing then placed onto a drying rack.
When the paper casting is dried it is removed from the
mold and hand finished with applications of color pencil, watercolor
pencil, pastels or inks to enhance the figure. A collage of various
colored hand produced papers from other cultures (i.e. Japanese rice
papers, Thai papers, etc.) using an archival grade adhesive is the final
addition.
Each base figurative image is cast multiple times,
though only when ordered(on demand). Each casting can have a different
base color and surface embellishments according to the tastes of the
client. The Figure remains the same.
Since there are "Multiple Originals" made from each
sculpture, they are numbered to show how many castings have been made
and what the final number of castings in the series will be.
Example: 4/25 means that it is the 4th casting in a series of
25. When the 25th casting is made the mold will be broken
The uneven "deckled" edge is an indication of a
hand made piece of paper and as such is not trimmed and is left showing
when matted.
